Case Study - Planned Maintenance Shutdowns
Planned Maintenance Shutdowns
Regular maintenance and servicing of facilities & machinery is essential for companies successfully operating in the manufacturing sector if they are to maintain high levels of productivity and therefore be cost effective.
The BACKGROUND
Lucite International is a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of acrylic-based products.
The PROBLEM
Maintenance shutdowns are planned for a number of reasons, Dave Lawson of Lucite International explains their key reasons;
• Inspections must be carried out for regulatory compliance
• A chance to carry out major maintenance tasks
• To clean out vessels to maintain the efficiency and reliablity of equipment
• Install upgrades to plants to increase efficiency and rate
• Replace expended equipment
The SOLUTION
a1-cbiss supply a wide range of personal and area monitoring gas detectors to their customers to either purchase or (more cost-effectively) hire for the duration of the shutdown.
Extra gas detection equipment is needed because the inspection work that is expected to be carried out, is needed to be done as quickly and safely as possible. Lucite International carry out work that is one-off with specialist contractors so buying the monitors would not be cost effective. They also use the data from the monitors to analyse what people are exposed to and change job methods quickly if any problems are detected.
By working closely with valued customers such as Lucite, a1-cbiss has become an important partner to a number of manufacturers because of the equipment that they can supply.
Testimonial
‘We use a1-cbiss for our hire equipment because they have access to a wide range and amount of equipment, some companies sub-contract the work so you can end up dealing with 2-3 companies. Over the years a1-cbiss have proven to be reliable and quick to correct any problems and to respond to our last minute changes’.
