Passive Samplers

Passive Samplers

Introduction

Passive samplers are clipped onto a garment of clothing and worn throughout the working day to measure how much target gas a person has been exposed to. Passive samplers utilise colourimetric (colour change) technology to visually record levels of isocyanates or specific toxic gases at ppm or ppb levels. These results are manually recorded to track personal exposure for any given period.

Direct read passive samplers provide a low-cost method of detection – low upfront cost, no calibration and no lab testing required. Passive samplers should never replace a personal alarm in safety-critical environments.

Passive Sampling Isocyanate Badges

Safeair Aromatic Isocyanates badge is a dual reading badge for Toluene Disocyanate (TDI) & Methyl Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI). This passive badge provides an immediate visual indication to warn the badge wearer of excessive isocyanate exposure.

  • Ideal for monitoring between 15 minutes to 24 hours
  • Low cost – Each badge cost just £4.50
  • Easy Calculation – Colour comparators are available for some badges making it easier to calculate exposure levels.
  • Save Money – Buy the Safeair System Starter Kit to make a cost saving on 10 dual isocyanate badges, a TDI colour comparison chart and 10 strap clips

Passive Dosi-Tubes

The passive Dosi-tube shows a colour stain to determine how much hazardous gas a worker has been in contact with over the Time Weighted Average (TWA). Dosi-tubes are clipped into a dosi-tube holder (bought separately) which attaches to an item of clothing and worn over a working day or shift.

  • Simple-to-read – No chart or lab analysis required
  • Next Day Delivery – Order before 2pm for next day delivery*
  • Low-cost method – Low upfront cost, no calibration, and no lab testing cost

Passive Sampling Toxic Gas Badges

The cost-effective detection of uncommon gases is not always possible. For measuring Ozone, Formaldehyde or Mercury, the SafeAir sampling badge makes this possible.

  • Low cost – Each badge cost just £3-£4 (depending on target gas)
  • Easy Calculation – Colour comparators are available for some badges making it easier to calculate exposure levels

Colour Comparators

The colour scales on the colour comparators identically match the colours formed on the Safeair badges. This makes it easier to calculate exposure levels.

  • Save Money – Buy the Safeair System Starter Kit to make a cost saving on 10 dual isocyanate badges, a TDI colour comparison chart and 10 strap clips
