Gastec Smoke Tubes

Smoke tubes generate white smoke to allow the user to visualise airflow behaviour within air ducts and detect leaks within fume hoods.

Smoke Test Tubes

Gastec smoke tubes generate white smoke to allow the user to visually monitor airflow currents within the workplace. Even slightest air movements are made visible to the eye so that their origin, course, and speed can be tracked.

How do they work?

Moisture in the air reacts with the reagent from the smoke tube to produce a cloud of white smoke that floats freely because it has the same density as ambient air.

The Gastec smoke generation tubes can be used for visualising air currents, such as tracking air flows in:

  • Testing the performance of fume hoods
  • Detecting leaks from air ducts
  • Airflow in chimneys

Industries include mining, chemical plants for pipeline leak detection, and installers of air conditioning and ventilation systems.

How to buy?

Our Gastec Airflow Smoke Tubes comes in a 6 pack of smoke generation tubes.

The Gastec smoke tubes are available to buy as part of a kit (GAS500) and includes the rubber aspirator bulb, pack of 6 tubes, rubber caps, leather carry pouch and instruction manual.

Both options are available to buy online.

What are Smoke Tubes?

A smoke tube is a device that is used to produce smoke for the purpose of testing air quality in buildings and other enclosed spaces. It typically consists of a long, hollow tube with a heating element at one end and a means of producing smoke at the other end.

Smoke is generated by burning a substance such as a cigarette or a piece of paper, and the smoke is then blown through the tube and into the space being tested. This allows engineers and other professionals to determine the flow of air and the effectiveness of ventilation systems in a given space.

How to use Smoke Tubes?

Break off both ends of the smoke generating tube and attach a rubber squeeze bulb to one end of the tube. When the bulb is squeezed, a chemical reaction produces white smoke. The white smoke makes the air flow (in ventilation systems/ducts, etc.) visible.

You will require a tube tip breaker to break off the ends of the smoke tube. These are sold separately from the kit. Alternatively, you can use the tip breaker if you already own a Gastec sampling pump.

The Gastec smoke tube is wrapped with a transparent film and therefore, holds glass pieces and contents of the tube if the tube is accidentally dropped. QC number, product code, and other information are printed on this film.

A single tube can be used in excess of 50 tests by sealing the tube ends with the rubber caps provided in the GAS500 kit.

There are several benefits to using smoke tubes for testing air quality and ventilation systems:

1) Smoke tubes are relatively inexpensive and easy to use, making them a cost-effective solution for testing air quality in buildings and other enclosed spaces.

2) Smoke is easily visible, allowing engineers and other professionals to clearly see the flow of air and identify areas where ventilation may be inadequate.

3) Smoke tubes can be used in a variety of different spaces, including offices, warehouses, factories, and other types of buildings.

4) The use of smoke tubes can help identify potential health and safety hazards, such as poor air quality or inadequate ventilation, and allow for corrective action to be taken.

Overall, smoke tubes are a valuable tool for ensuring good air quality and proper ventilation in buildings and other enclosed spaces.
