How Much Can You Save on Compressed Air Testing?

by | Jan 29, 2019 | Gas Detection, Latest News

How much are you overpaying for air quality testing in your compressed breathing airlines to comply with BS EN12021?

Testing for contaminants in breathing air quality lines is required to meet the international standards set by BS EN12021 and ensure the quality of breathable air being supplied to an operator is at a suitable standard.

COSHH regulations state that ‘testing should be conducted at least once every 3 months and more frequently when the quality of the air supplied cannot be assured’.

So what are the options for carrying out testing?

The costs of a contractor or a consultant per test can be eye-watering – as much as £2300 per year

a1-cbiss are finding more clients competent in performing these tests themselves in a bid to save money.

After the initial outlay of just £1395, the AIRQUAL-1 provides a considerable cost saving as long as you’re happy at doing the test yourself. With annual tests (based on 4 per year) amounting to as low as £150, you can save over £2000 per year.

The AIRQUAL-1 Breathing Air Quality Test Kit

The AIRQUAL-1 provides on the spot indication of compressed air quality of Oil Mist, Water Vapour, Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide and Oxygen packaged in a rugged peli-case.

The AIRQUAL-1 breathing air quality test kit has been designed for use with the Gastec Airtec Tubes and is supplied complete with oil mist, water vapour, carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) test tubes to allow immediate multiple testing. Oxygen is measured using the Protege ZM which has been fitted to the AIRQUAL-1.

This comprehensive breathing air quality test kit is compact, easy to operate and can be used to indicate the level of contamination, as well as, operating flow, temperature, and pressure.

FAQs

Q. Where is the AIRQUAL-1 used?

A. The AIRQUAL-1 is used in applications where supplied air respirators are worn – typically, spray booths, marine (scuba and diving centres), fire & rescue and many manufacturing processes.

Q. Are there any ongoing costs?

A. Each test requires the use of one test tube per contaminant. There are 10 Airtec tubes in each pack priced at £35, therefore each test costs 4 x £3.50 = £14.00. The Oxygen detector currently costs £73 and will need to be replaced every 2 years. a1-cbiss recommend that the AIRQUAL-1 is functionally tested once per year – available at a1-cbiss from £49.

Q. Is the AIRQUAL-1 easy to use?

A. The AIRQUAL-1 has been designed to be easy to operate. If you buy the AIRQUAL-1 and need assistance, use our training video or alternatively, our technical experts can either visit you and demonstrate the product or walk through using a video call.
