Portable Gas Detectors

Portable Gas Detectors

Introduction

Portable gas detectors are critical in providing personal protection for workers in industrial applications against the threat of oxygen, flammable and toxic gas hazards. That’s why portable gas detectors are essential – so they can detect, measure, monitor and react to any gases in the immediate area around them.

a1-cbiss provides a range of the very best detectors from leading manufacturers. Portable gas detectors are used for personal safety, workplace monitoring, confined spaces, and area monitoring. Our portfolio of handheld gas detectors contains single-gas and multi-gas detectors, gas detector tubes as well as calibration and bump testing equipment and software packages.

We consider the exposure limits, environmental conditions, your purpose of gas detection and your budget to propose you a fit for purpose gas detection solution.

Single Gas Detectors

Single gas detectors are generally worn directly on the worker’s clothing or attached to PPE within the breathing area to give an accurate gas exposure measurement.

  • Lowest Prices – Single gas detector prices start from £73. We won’t be beaten on price
  • Next Day Delivery – Huge stock of Protégé ZM detectors available on next day delivery.
  • Various Alarms That Gain Attention – Various types of audible, visual and motion alarms are available because gas monitors are worn in noisy and dark applications.
  • Leading Brands – a1-cbiss support the Crowcon, Teledyne, RAE Systems, BW, and Industrial Scientific single personal gas detector product ranges
  • Detectors You Can Rely On – Problems are less likely to arise if your portable gas detectors have a regular service plan. Single gas detector service plan starting from £30.

Disposable Gas Detectors

  • Turn on and Away You Go – most disposable gas detectors won’t turn off once you’ve turned them on
  • Extend Life By 1 Year – If your detector isn’t in use, buy a hibernation case and extend the lifetime by a year
  • Lowest Prices – Single gas detector prices start from £73. We won’t be beaten on price
  • Next Day Delivery – Huge stock of Protégé ZM detectors available on next day delivery.
  • Various Alarms That Gain Attention – Various types of audible, visual and motion alarms are available because gas monitors are worn in noisy and dark applications.
  • Leading Brands – a1-cbiss support the Crowcon, Teledyne and BW single personal gas detector product ranges

Four Gas (Confined Space Entry) Detectors

A four-gas detector is known as a confined space entry gas detector. These are mostly used prior to entry into a confined space to determine hazardous gas levels. a1-cbiss supplies a range of confined space entry gas detectors which give you a measure of indication that it is safe for you or your colleagues to enter an environment.

  • Lowest Prices – Four gas detector prices start from £310.
  • Next Day Delivery – Huge stock of PS200 and T4 detectors available on next day delivery.
  • Various Alarms That Gain Attention – Various types of audible, visual and motion alarms are available because gas monitors are worn in noisy and dark applications.
  • How Do You Know It’s Safe to Enter a Confined Space? A pumped gas detector coupled with a sampling line is used to perform a pre-entry check.
  • Leading Brands – a1-cbiss support the Crowcon, RAE Systems, BW, and Industrial Scientific four gas detector product ranges.
  • Detectors You Can Rely On – Problems are less likely to arise if your portable gas detectors have a regular service plan. Multi-gas detector service plan starting from £40.

Multi (5+) Gas Detectors

Multi-gas detectors either provide personal protection in applications where 5 or more gas hazards are present or to carry out advanced gas monitoring activities because of the superior features these instruments have over 4 gas confined space monitors.

Typically, they are larger in size than confined space detectors, robust and can detect a wider range of gas hazards. These devices are generally worn directly on the worker’s belt or attached to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), close to the worker’s breathing area.

  • More Choice of Gases – Most multi-gas detectors offer pumped or diffusion sampling and feature an IR sensor for monitoring Carbon Dioxide and PID sensor for monitoring VOCs.
  • Enhanced Product Features – Packed with features that benefit a health and safety worker programme. Features include wireless transmission, lone worker alarms, datalogging, and rugged housing.
  • Various Alarms That Gain Attention – Various types of audible, visual and motion alarms are available because gas monitors are worn in noisy and dark applications.
  • Leading Brands – a1-cbiss stock Crowcon, RAE Systems, BW, and Industrial Scientific five gas detector products
  • Detectors You Can Rely On – Problems are less likely to arise if your portable gas detectors have a regular service plan. Multi-gas detector service plan starting from £50.
  • Expert Guidance – We consider the exposure limits, environmental conditions, your purpose of gas detection and your budget to propose you a fit for purpose multi-gas detection solution.

Photo Ionisation Detectors (PID)

Photo Ionisation Detectors (PID) are used for measuring Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) within personal safety applications. There are other technologies, but they are much more expensive. The most common lamp ratings are 9.8eV, 10.6eV and 11.7eV.

10.6eV is the most efficient and commonly used lamp because it has a 2-3 year lifespan. The 11.7eV lamp can measure the biggest library of VOCs yet it has the shortest lifespan because it requires more power and burns out. The 9.8eV PID lamp requires the lowest power and has the longest lifespan but is limited to the number of VOCs it can detect.

  • Low ppb Detection Accuracy – The ppbRAE is designed to point and measure VOC’s in very low concentrations in ppb (parts per billion) in environmental, HazMat, oil & gas or industrial safety applications.
  • High ppm detection Accuracy – the ToxiRAE PID designed to be worn for employee safety whilst up to 10,000ppm (parts per million/ 1% Volume).
  • Leading Brands – a1-cbiss supply RAE Systems PID detectors – renowned for high quality and reliability.
  • Detectors You Can Rely On – Problems are less likely to arise if your portable gas detectors have a regular service plan. Multi-gas detector service plan starting from £50.
  • Expert Guidance – We consider the exposure limits, environmental conditions, your purpose of gas detection and your budget to propose you a fit for purpose PID detection solution.

Area Gas Monitors

Belt & Braces for Ultimate Safety – Workers should always wear gas detectors when working in or around a hazardous environment, but some applications are better suited for continuous area monitoring. Area monitors can be used alongside personal gas detectors to provide a tough ‘belt and braces’ safety approach.

Always With You – Area monitors provide benefits like those of a fixed gas detection system, however, they can be transported and repositioned to suit your needs.

Put a Ring On It – Area monitors provide protection to workers in confined space applications, perimeter, and fenceline monitoring.

Multi Sensor Choice – Area monitors are available with a wide range of sensor options including your standard oxygen, flammable, toxic sensors, while some can monitor VOCs using PID detection.

Loaded with Features – At a1-cbiss, our area monitors come with the option of an integral pump for sampling, along with alarms and high decibel sounders, with multiple flashing beacons to ensure good visibility in all conditions.
